For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are sanctified. Hebrews 10:14
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. I Peter 2:9
And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. I Corinthians 6:11
Holiness is indicative of God's people, by virtue of what the Trinity has worked for us and in us. It is not something that we can naturally strive for and attain, but a result of our union with Christ and our relationship to Him, because of His work for us.
When the Lord commands perfection (Matthew 5:48) our attitude can be one of humble reliance. It is only because we are found in Him that we can be found perfect. And we can be assured that we will be conformed to His image, because He never fails.
I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6
